If you've followed me here for the last two years or so you've only seen the good stuff: the swimsuits and nice dresses and cool hotels and the beautiful, far flung beaches ... what you didn't see was far less glamorous: the crying in bathtubs, the chain smoking on balconies, the drugs and the drinking and the endless self destructive searching for a way to feel less shattered.

Last summer, when Verena and David asked me to write a hotel guide for Gossamer Volume 2, they kindly gave me 6 pages and carte blanche ... but I don't think either of them expected what I ended up turning in: three very raw essays about travel and heartbreak and trying to make sense of love and loss. Writing those pieces, I felt more exposed than ever before ... but they are now some my favorite things I've ever written. .
